Impact Project 2006-2008
Miami Dade College will initiate a pilot research project that measures the impact of service-learning on the retention and success rates of under-prepared and minority college students. The goal is to better understand the impact of real-world benefits of service-learning on an at-risk community college population. There is a growing body of research supporting the benefits of service learning on academic (retention and critical thinking skills) and nonacademic (self-esteem) outcomes. MDC's research will better document the results of integrating service-learning into the College Prep and Student Life Skills courses and helping at-risk students achieve successful outcomes across a variety of domains.
